As communicated by organisations such as FAO, by 2050 we will have to feed 9 billion people in a sustainable way. During Agri Vision 2009, the speakers and participants concluded that, yes, we are able to close the gap between surging demand and struggling supplies, even in stressed surroundings. At Agri Vision 2011 we want to go Beyond Boundaries and answer the question: How can we make it happen?

We all live on the same planet but despite increasing globalisation the world has not become “flat”. The needs, challenges and enabling factors for working towards feeding 9 billion people differ greatly between the developing world, emerging economies and the developed countries. What are the challenges agrifood systems in these regions must overcome for us to feed 9 billion people in 2050? What are the factors in these regions that can enable us to achieve this goal? What are the examples that can inspire and encourage us to think and act Beyond Boundaries?

Achieving the target of feeding 9 billion people sustainably by 2050 requires pioneers, partnerships, people talent and public acceptance. This is why we want to come together again at Agri Vision 2011 in order to be inspired while sharing ideas, experiences and optimism.
